BULGARIA UNESCO HERITAGE

On the territory of Bulgaria hundreds of sites are pronounced for cultural monuments of national, regional and local significance. Eight of them are recognized as unique monuments of worldwide significance, a priceless possession not only for Bulgaria but also for the whole mankind. They are included in UNESCO Cultural and Natural Heritage list.
Day 1 SOFIA
Meet and assist at the airport. Bus transfer Airport – Hotel Accommodation in the hotel. City tour Sofia. Dinner in the hotel and overnight.
Note: Depending of the flight details, part of the programme of sightseeing of Sofia could be distribute in the first or in the last day, aiming improvement of the programme.
Day 2 SOFIA – BOYANA CHURCH – RILA MONASTERY – BOROVETS
Breakfast. Visit of The Boyana Church. Located on the outskirts of Sofia, Boyana Church consists of three buildings. The eastern church was built in the 10th century, then enlarged at the beginning of the 13th century by Sebastocrator Kaloyan, who ordered a second two storey building to be erected next to it. The frescoes in this second church, painted in 1259, make it one of the most important collections of medieval paintings. The ensemble is completed by a third church, built at the beginning of the 19th century. This site is one of the most complete and perfectly preserved monuments of east European medieval art. Drive to Rila Monastery, the biggest one in Bulgaria. This architectural monument and a treasure house of cultural and artistic valuables is included in UNESCO list. Lunch. Accommodation in Borovets mountain resort. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 BOROVETS – BACHKOVO MONASTERY – PLOVDIV
Breakfast. Visit the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria – The Bachkovo Monastery. It is an important monument of Christian architecture and one of the largest and oldest Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Europe. Lunch. In the afternoon follows an exciting stroll along the architectural reserve „The Old Plovdiv“ and accommodation in the town. Dinner in folk style restaurant with programme. Overnight.
Day 4 PLOVDIV – NESSEBAR
Breakfast. Departure to Nessebar, one of the most ancient towns in Europe, the old part of the town (UNESCO) will be visited. Situated on a rocky peninsula on the Black Sea, the more than 3,000-year-old site of Nessebar was originally a Thracian settlement (Menebria). Lunch. Accommodation and leisure time. Dinner in tavern in the Old city. Overnight.
Day 5 NESSEBAR – VARNA
Breakfast. Departure to Varna. Arrival and Lunch in Varna. Visit of Roman Thermae built in II century and one of the symbols of the town – The Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. You will also visit the Archaeological Museum, where is exposed the oldest gold treasure in the world. Accommodation, dinner in the hotel and overnight.
Day 6 VARNA – MADARA – SVESHTARY – SREBARNA – ROUSSE
Breakfast. Visit of the natural phenomenon „Pobiti Kamani“ /Upright Stones/ near Varna and after that departure to „Madara Rider“, included in UNESCO list. Lunch. The next stop is the most impressive Thracian tomb found in our lands near the village of Sveshtari (UNESCO). After that drive to the nature reserve Sreburna, included in the World Register of Natural Heritage. The Srebarna Nature Reserve is a freshwater lake adjacent to the Danube and extending over 600 ha. It is the breeding ground of almost 100 species of birds, many of which are rare or endangered. Some 80 other bird species migrate and seek refuge there every winter. Among the most interesting bird species are the Dalmatian pelican, great egret, night heron, purple heron, glossy ibis and white spoonbill. Arrival in Rousse, which is situated on the right bank of the Danube at the mouth of the Roussenski Lom river. The town is known also as „Little Vienna“ because of its ancient architecture. Accommodation, dinner in the hotel and overnight.
Day 7 ROUSSE – IVANOVO – ARBANASSY – VELIKO TARNOVO
Breakfast. Visit of Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo (UNESCO) hewn out in the solid rock. This is where the first hermits had dug out their cells and churches during the 12th century. The 14th-century murals testify to the exceptional skill of the artists. Then you will set off for the architectural reserve Arbanassi, in the close proximity of Veliko Tarnovo. Lunch. Accommodation in Veliko Tarnovo, dinner and overnight.
Day 8 VELIKO TARNOVO – ETARA – KAZANLAK
Breakfast. Sightseeing of Veliko Tarnovo, one of the ancient Bulgarian towns, a successor of a thousand-year old pre-historical, Thracian and Ancient culture, a center of political, business and cultural life of the Medieval Bulgarian Empire. Visit of the Medieval fortifications of Tsarevets. Next is visit to the Etar Architectural-Ethnographic Complex – Gabrovo. Lunch. The aim of the museum exposition is to show the architecture, lifestyle and craftsmanship from the past of the town of Gabrovo and Gabrovo region during the Bulgarian Revival. The group will set off for Kazanlak where will be the dinner and the overnight.
Day 9 KAZANLAK – KOPRIVSHTITSA – SOFIA
Breakfast in the hotel. In the morning the group will visit The Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak (UNESCO) and The Museum of Rose. Next is a visit to town-museum of Koprivshtitsa, a town that still keeps the characteristic features of the Bulgarian National Revival town, a rich history, lifestyle and folklore. Lunch. Departure for Sofia. Accommodation, dinner in the hotel and overnight.
Day 10 SOFIA AIRPORT
Breakfast. Transfer to Sofia Airport.
